Lambtown 2011

Last weekend I used visiting my Boys up in Davis as an excuse to drop in on Lambtown in Dixon, Ca. Or maybe I used Lambtown as an excuse to drop in on the Boys. Whatever, it worked. You can read more about Lambtown by following the link. My interest was in the craft and fiber booths, and the wool show. Alpacas were there too.

One of the first things I saw at the fairgrounds was the sheep to shawl competition. It looked like 5 or 6 looms were set up, maybe more. I thought this pedal powered drum carder ingenious. I don't know if any of the competitors used it, they were far past the carding stage by the time I showed up.

There was a building full of fiber-y type vendors, everything from raw fleece to dyed roving and yarn. Alpaca, Angora, Romney, Wensleydale, Cormo, Merino to name a few of the fiber types.

A wool show in the corner, besides wool they were also judging mohair, and alpaca and maybe cashmere.

Outside were more booths, and food vendors, sheep and alpaca barns, sheepdog trials and a kiddie play area. It looked like many families showed up just for fun. The weather was perfect.

I found a few things to bring home. Some of the best butter toffee almonds I've ever tasted. I ate most of them driving home on Sunday. A little bit of BFL roving;

Some pretty abalone shell buttons for the sweater I'm working on;

And, surprise! A fleece in shades of grey.

And I learned that the Handweavers Guild of America Convergence will be in Long Beach, CA next year. Hmmm, that's not so far from home at all. Less than 2 hours.
