Not exactly Fiber

But maybe, with a little bit of a stretch, I can make it fit. I took Rowyn, my goofy red pup, out for a herding instinct test today. It went pretty well. Since herding can involve sheep, and sheep make wool, I figure its a fit. If you like, you can read about it here; http://morganriveraussiepups.blogspot.com/2013/03/rowyns-big-day.html .

Pets on the Move

I've decided to give my pets a page of their own on the blog. Just click the "Pets' Page" at the top of the blog. Right now, its all Rowyn pictures. Later, who knows?

Lets Be Realistic...

There's just nothing but puppy going on at this house. Please bear with me while puppy pics consume the blog. At least Rowyn can't actually eat the blog.

We've been working on some puppy training. Or maybe that's human training. Right off the bat, Ro let me know that if I want his attention while he's busy ignoring me, I need some better treats. I found some freeze-dried liver ones that all the pets in the house enjoy. Even Scipio the cat. Right now I'm sitting on the treat bag to keep the cat out of it. And Rowyn keeps running over just in case I called him.

Scipio and Rowyn are very interested in each other, but haven't decided on what the ground rules are. Scipio has taught Ro that just barging in is rude. I wish I'd had a camera ready to capture the look on Rowyn's face the first time the cat bopped him on the head! "Whoa, dude! Whacha to that for?"

Shae is mostly very tolerant of of Rowyn's antics. I keep telling her she needs to bust his chops when he starts getting uppity, but she looks at me as if to say, "awww, he's just a puppy." Shae has snarked at Ro a couple of times, but then she just looks miserable that she made him yelp. She doesn't like anyone to get in trouble, even if she's the one handing out the discipline.

Here are a couple of cell phone videos of them playing;

And his name is...

Rowyn, or Ro, or mostly Ro-Ro. It didn't take us all this time to come up with a name. I just forgot I hadn't mentioned it here.
I'm wondering if I'll be able to collect any of his puppy coat as it sheds out. If I can collect any, I'll spin it. I think his coat is just long enough to work. In the meantime, I work at keeping all my fiber-y stuff out of his reach!

Puppy Pics!

Firstly, a fiber type update. Not much to say, new puppy in house, no knitting, spinning or weaving taking place. At All. I did start a tank top earlier this month. Right now it looks like, well, not much. Two inches of knitting in the round.

Now for the good stuff. Puppy updates. Ryan was the first to meet the puppy, and he suggested perhaps we could change the puppy's name. I'm alright with that. Most of the time, I'm pretty terrible with naming things. Ryan is pretty good at it, and he's named two of our previous pets. Later that same day, Evan met puppy and agreed that we should consider a different name. And he wanted a crack at it since he's never named one of our pets. I gave him the go ahead to start suggesting names. (Just so we're clear here, the final decision is mine. The boys know that.)

Sadly, Evan seems to have inherited the "bad with naming things" gene from his mother. I've let him know that it is entire possible to live a normal life with such a deficiency, especially since you're bound to know somebody else that's pretty good with naming. Oddly enough, I've been tossing out names faster than a popcorn machine. Very uncharacteristic, and I'm enjoying the feeling. Meanwhile, we still have Pup-pup-puppy. This will not be his name.

Pictures.
Heeeheeehee, Look, I'm a GSD puppy!
A game of tug with Shae. Love the look on her face.
Wading in the pool. He likes to splash.
Whew! I'm beat.

Keeping track of all these people is hard work for one puppy.

The heat of the day

Good time for a nap.

Learning about urban dog life

In Davis, hanging out on the patio while the humans have lunch. All the cool dogs do this.

Hey! What about those puppy pictures?

I did promise puppy pictures, and now I'll make good. The cellphone cam has a hard time capturing a swiftly moving puppy, but at least I can send these from on the road.
One at a time.
This first one is from yesterday, at the rest stop in Weed, CA. Traveling with a young puppy means more opportunities for stops.

Meet the New Puppy

Right now, his name is Hoedad. Dusty tells me that a hoedad is a tool used for replanting forestry saplings. The entire litter has forestry or logging related names.
I like him! Better pictures later, I promise.

Another Confession

I'm 'fessing up. There's something I've been keeping to myself. Now its time to share. Heck, in a few weeks, it will be totally obvious anyway.

I'm getting a puppy. Part of me is sure I must be crazy. Shucks, life is enriched by a little craziness, yes? You can see mug shots over at the Morgan River Ranch blog.
That link takes you to photos of the horde at 4 weeks old. If you roam the blog, there are pictures starting with just born to just a few days ago.

I don't know which one is coming home with me yet. I know its not Timber (sigh), he's spoken for. I think I need to buy more chew toys now.

Scipio's New Climbing Post

After we moved the exercise equipment out to make room for the loom, Scipio needed a reworked climbing post. Or I did, if I wanted my furniture to survive. Today I finally finished the project up. The taller post is a concrete post form, originally purpchased from the hardware store, and reused from the previous version of the kitty post. The shorter post are re-purposed heavy duty shipping tubes. DH had something mailed to the house, I claimed the tubes. The carpet is cheapo area rug from big box hardware store. I'm not sure how long it will hold up. I already had the rope used to tie the post together. I used a staple/nail gun to attach the carpet to the tubes. I thought about using something like Gorilla Glue, but didn't want the glue smell while it cured. And this time around I cut some end caps out of masonite (hardy board or whatever) that was already sitting around. So right now, this looks pretty clean. If it isn't stable enough, I can toss some weight into the bottom of the tubes. We've already taking a test run.

Look Who Turned 13!

And Shae is just getting better and better. She's finally slowed down enough that I can keep up with her. As a special treat for her day, she got a nummy lamb leg bone.
We uhh, didn't bother with wrapping paper.
I love that face!

'Cat'-aflage

I keep trying to figure out why Scipio rolls in the dirt so much. Maybe a white coat seems conspicuous?

Cat Owner Confessions

Really, I'm not obsessed with my cat. He's just always doing goofy stuff, and doesn't seem to mind having his picture taken. Having those cute pictures around helps when he's done some rotten bone headed cat thing. Like try to climb my leg.

 Dear Cat,
I like you very much. However, there are a few things you do that are not so endearing. Climbing up my leg to tell me how much you like me is never, ever, going to be a good thing. Even if you can't see my legs, trust me, they are there, inside those pant legs or long skirts. Also, don't climb those things when they're hanging in the closet. Please don't try to grab the strings that adjust the waistband of my sweat pants. By the way, none of the men in the house like this either. Typically, when I climb into bed, I'm thinking of sleep. Not mock combat. Please stop ambushing me. I know you are young, with much energy and curiosity. I want to see you live to a ripe old age. I think there is a much greater chance of that happening if you heed my requests on these few matters, at least most of the time.

It Must be a Random Sort of Month

Because, I still have very little to show on the fiber-y front.
A Christmas tree was purchased and set up. A lovely 7-8' tall tree. The incredible shrinking tree. Once we got it home I saw that the trunk was too big to fit in our stand (normally we take the stand with, but forgot this time), so I cut off about 4-5" of trunk and put the stand on. Once set up in the house, we saw that the trunk, beside being big around, had a definite bend to it, like no way would it stand up even passably close to straight, with a major 'elbow' about 8-9" up from the bottom.  So back outside where I cut off another 8-9" of trunk. Now the tree is maybe 6' tall, it gets a boost from the stand. And it is pretty close to pointing straight up, even though you can still see the trunk is curved. It is a brave little tree, proudly displaying the minimal amount of decorating it received. With an adolescent cat in the house, I felt is prudent to only use the non-breakable decorations.

So aforementioned cat would have something in the house to climb besides the Christmas tree (and the furniture), I decided to make a climbing/scratching post. I went to the local big box home improvement store and bought one of those cardboard cylinders used as forms for concrete footings. The one I used is 8" x 48". I was going to wrap it in sisal rope, but when I got the rope home and opened the package, the rope stunk! Of whatever they use during processing I guess. So I set the rope aside and decided to use an old doormat/area rug that was sitting around. I cut the tube so it would match the length of the rug, then used a staple gun to attach and wrap the rug around the tube, then trimmed of the excess rug. Then I tied the tube to the weight machine that sits in the family room, mostly unused whilst the Boys are away at school.
Scipio the cat ignored it for a while, but now he scratches, climbs and generally attacks the thing. I've a smaller tube to add to it, some time later. Eventually, I hope to add some cat perching areas to the weight machine. At least then, someone will be using it.

The Boys are home now, and its just like old times. I mostly see them when they're hungry, otherwise they're in their rooms, or hanging out with friends. Ryan did help me make some holiday goodies, chocolate covered peanut butter balls (except really, they look more like breasts). There was melted chocolate left over, so I dipped marshmallows, dried apricots and made chocolate covered almond clusters too.
Fun and delicious.

Can you see the halo?

Really? Somebody got into your yarn? Why would anybody do that?
