Getting Warped, Again

Weaving, like knitting and spinning, has it's own special jargon. Makes no sense whatsoever to the uninitiated. To me, knitting terms seem mostly whimsical, except for maybe when we talk about ripping back. Spinning terms make me think along feminine lines with parts of the spinning wheel named 'the maiden' and 'the mother of all'.
But weaving seems to have a darker side. It starts with getting warped. Moves on to sleying the reeds, and during the weaving process one beats the weaving with a beater bar. Or just  beater for short.
I wonder why there is such a difference? Or maybe there isn't, and that's just the way my mind works.
