That was fun

Wheee! I had great fun knitting the cable pattern; what an easy way to play with a stitch pattern, and satisfy my urge for cables.

Weaving Wednesday

Uhhmmm. So far, no weaving today. But there are a few hours left before I head to bed. I'm sooooo close to finishing napkin 4. I bet the actual weaving part only takes 20 minutes. (Update: Yeah, it only took 10 minutes.) The hem stitching, that will take longer. I'll save that for tomorrow, or the next day, or the next day...

I'm so happy to have a finished object to report! The socks are finally done. I made the heel too wide, but they are still very wearable. It was fun to work the cables.

So much fun that I decided to make more cables. This time on a pair of fingerless mitts.
This is some hand spun Shetland, so soft and warm.

Presto-Chango!

Back in October I spun up some organic brown cotton. Sometime between then and now I went to the website for the cotton and read that the color of the cotton deepens when its boiled in water. Really? Today I had a few skeins of yarn to full, so since I was heating water anyway, I boiled the cotton skein first. Below is a picture comparing the cotton sliver to the boiled cotton yarn. Before boiling, the yarn was the same color as the sliver. Cool!

Here is the wool/cashmere/possum blend after washing and whacking, it really puffed up! I'm thinking of dying is blue or purple, and I think it will be a hat maybe.
Also washed and whacked a small skein of brown wool of unknown sheep type(s), this one really puffed up too! I've got odd ball bits of this wool/yarn, maybe I'll whip up some fingerless mitts for the boys for Christmas.

Belated Happy New Year

I haven't totally abandoned this poor blog. I have guilty thoughts almost every day over not blogging more consistently. Or... almost every week. Meanwhile, today I took a trip to majorly stupid town and managed to completely thrash my computer's main hard drive, resulting in a complete reinstall of the OS. I'm still searching for a backup, any back up so I don't have to try and recreate everything. sigh. I really need to learn when to let well enough alone.

I've done some knitting; 2 sets of wrist warmers/fingerless mitts completed. One for me and one for MIL, who asked for a pair when she saw me working on mine Xmas eve. I've started a third pair, trying my hand at illusion knitting, at the request of Offspring #1. He turns 18 years old next month.

I've been spending too much time playing video games, and not enough knitting.
